UFC 310 adds Alexandre Pantoja vs Kai Asakura flyweight championship bout

UFC 310 is shaping up to be an incredible night of fights as the Ultimate Fighting Championship has just added two stellar title fights to the lineup.

UFC 310 is to go down on December 7, 2024, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, and is to serve as the final PPV event of the year.

The co-main event of the evening is expected to come in the flyweight division between UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja (28-5) and former two-time Rizin bantamweight champion Kai Asakura (21-4).

Pantoja, following a 2-1 run on The Ultimate Fighter 24 with wins over current top 5 talents in no. 2 ranked future, now former two-time UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno (rear naked choke) and no. 4 ranked Kai Kara-France (UD), made his UFC debut in 2017 with an impressive record of 16-2.

The Brazilian would go 6-3 through his first nine promotional appearances, winning back-to-back fights showcasing victories over Eric Shelton (SD) and Neil Seery (rear naked choke). This was followed up by a defeat to Dustin Ortiz (UD) before Pantoja defeated Brandon Moreno (UD) for a second time, Ulka Sasaki (rear naked choke), and former title challenger Wilson Reis (TKO).

Pantoja then lost to future two-time UFC flyweight champion and current no. 5 ranked bantamweight Deiveson Figueiredo (UD), before defeating Matt Schnell (KO) and then losing to former ACB flyweight champion Askar Askarov (UD).

Since then however he hasn’t lost, defeating the likes of former Rizin bantamweight champion Manel Kape (UD), former LFA flyweight champion Brandon Royval (rear naked choke), former TPF flyweight champion Alex Perez (neck crank), Brandon Moreno (SD) for the third time, Brandon Royval (UD) for the second time, and former EFC flyweight champion Steve Erceg in his latest appearance, winning the title in his trilogy with Moreno and defending it in his latest two outings.

Then we have the UFC debut of Japanese striking sensation Kai Asakura, a man that boasts wins over all four opponents that ever defeated him including Jae Hoon Moon, Manel Kape, former Shooto, Rizin, and Bellator two-division champion Kyoji Horiguchi, and former Shooto two-division champion Hiromasa Ougikubo (who defeated Pantoja on TUF).

This is an exciting match up coming to us in the UFC’s 125 lb division, who walks away from UFC 310’s co-main event with the flyweight title this December?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
