UFC Brasilia results: Francisco Trinaldo earns unanimous decision over John Makdessi
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, the UFC returns to Brazil for UFC on ESPN+ 28 and with the outbreak of Coronavirus, the event will be closed to fans and media.
UFC Brasilia takes place at the Ginásio Nilson Nelson and will be headlined by a lightweight bout between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira.
Kicking off the main card will be a welterweight bout between Francisco Trinaldo and John Makdessi. Trinaldo has flip-flopped wins and losses over his last six fights and enters UFC Brasilia looking to make it two consecutive victories. In his most recent bout, “Massaranduba” picked up a unanimous decision win over Bobby Green at UFC Sao Paulo in November.
Makdessi enters the fight on a three fight winning streak, with victories over Abel Trujillo, Ross Pearson and Jesus Pinedo. “The Bull” returns after nearly a year layoff and recovering from an injury that forced him out of his scheduled UFC 241 bout with Devonte Smith.

ROUND 1
Joe Martinez doing these introductions like there’s 100,000 people in the building. What a pro! They touch gloves and Makdessi lands a leg kick quickly. Trinaldo lands a left hand and eats a Makdessi counter. Hard body kick from Trinaldo and a big left hand behind it. High kick from Trinaldo lands before going back with another hard left foot to the body. Makdessi tries to answer with a side kick to the body as Trinaldo pressures forward. Leg kick from Makdessi answered by a hard right hand from Trinaldo. Leg kick from the Brazilian thumps throughout the building and a hard straight left down the pipe gets Makdessi’s attention. Another hard combination from Trinaldo keeps Makdessi moving backwards and circling. Final two minutes of the round and Trinaldo lands a hard combination. Makdessi ducks under a spinning back kick attempt and is looking to change the momentum of the round. Hard body kick from Trinaldo with under a minute to go. Trinaldo trying to cut off the cage and comes up short on a spinning back fist. Hard body kick from Makdessi, but Trinaldo answers with a big left hand. The horn sounds after the first five minutes of action.

ROUND 2
Trinaldo blocks a body kick off the bat as Makdessi comes out a bit more aggressive. They circle each other around the Octagon and Trinaldo lands a body kick across the chest of Makdessi. Leg kick from Makdessi, answered by a combination from Trinaldo — capped off with yet another hard kick to the body. Left hand from Makdessi and a body kick behind it. Another leg kick from Makdessi, and another one as he is starting to score. Right hand lands clean from Trinaldo before trading body kicks with Makdessi. Approaching the halfway point of the round and Trinaldo lands a combination. High kick glances the chin of Makdessi with a left hand behind it. Trinaldo hasn’t taken a backwards step at all in the first eight-plus minutes. Makdessi attempts a side kick to the body but slips on the mat. Final minute of the round and Trinaldo comes up short with a left hand. Makdessi lands a leg kick, Trinaldo answers to the body. Nice left hand counter from Makdessi as Trinaldo has certainly slowed down. Trinaldo lands a hard left uppercut and a kick to the body as the round ends. Close round — is it the volume of Makdessi, or the more powerful shots from Trinaldo? I favor the latter.

ROUND 3
They touch gloves to kick off the final round and Makdessi lands a leg kick quickly. Another leg kick from Makdessi leads to a combination counter from Trinaldo. Hard left hand down the pipe just misses from Trinaldo, as well as a jumping knee attempt. Leg kick from Makdessi lands and Trinaldo comes up short with his counter. Trinaldo blocks a body kick attempt from Makdessi and counters with a combination. Makdessi catches a body kick attempt from Trinaldo and they separate, Trinaldo with a left hand on the chin. Makdessi continues to throw out that leg kick and Trinaldo responds with a solid combination. Makdessi starts bleeding from the bridge of the nose. Final two minutes of the round and Makdessi lands another leg kick and a side kick to the body. Makdessi goes back to the body and avoids the Trinaldo counter. Another leg kick from Makdessi and we are in the final minute of this main card opener. Trinaldo with an uppercut on the button, body kick behind it. Spin kick attempt comes up short from Makdessi and Trinaldo lands a short left hand in return. Trinaldo shoots in for a takedown, they clinch up, elbows from Trinaldo before separation and the horn sounds.
