UFC to land in Santiago, Chile for very first time
The UFC will land in Chile for the first time in the organization’s 25-year history. The Saturday, May 19 fight card will take place at the Movistar Arena in Santiago.
UFC Fight Night will air live on FS1. Chile will become the second South American country to host a UFC event. Brazil is the first.
Fight card currently announced:
Diego Rivas vs Guido Cannetti
Vicente Luque vs Chad Laprise
Alexa Grasso vs Tatiana Suarez
Veronica Macedo vs Andrea Lee
Poliana Botelho vs Syuri Kondo
Rivas hails from the Chilean city of Temuco and will meet Cannetti in a bantamweight bout. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016.
Andrea Lee will make her long awaited UFC debut on the card. She was set to make her debut last year but was pulled from a fight card the same day her signing was announced. Since Lee had a previous failed drug test, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency ruling states that a competitor must be enrolled in USADA’s testing pool for six months before becoming eligible to fight in the UFC. The Legacy Fighting Alliance flyweight champion was called up to fight Kalindra Faria but the fight was cancelled.
No headlining bout has officially been announced for the event.
