UFC Fight Night Cerrone vs. Miller Results
UFC Fight Night Atlantic City, N.J. – July 16, 2014
Two of the top lightweights in the world entered the octagon at the Revel in Atlantic City tonight. Home state favorite Jim Miller had his hands full with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and if you followed predictions before the fight you know there were many who were not predicting a win for the Garden State’s Miller.
Miller actually suffered two losses in the UFC’s latest visits back to his home state, once against Nate Diaz and then again against Pat Healy.
Make it three. Donald Cerrone defeated Jim Miller via KO in the second round of action bringing the third straight loss in a UFC event in New Jersey for Miller.
The night’s co-main event pitted Edson Barboza vs. Evan Dunham in a bout where both fighters desperately needed a win. Barboza never suffered two losses in a row and was seeking to keep that streak alive after suffering a defeat at the hands of one of the fighters in the main event, Cerrone. Dunham also last lost to Cerrone but had another loss before that to Rafael dos Anjos and was aiming to avoid three in a row. Barboza delivered a kick that skimmed the body of Dunham but it did enough damage to send the fighter to the canvas cringing in pain. Barboza jumped in to finish with strikes and referee Keith Petersen called an end to the fight at 3:06 in the first round.
The move of the night might have been John Lineker ending his fight with Alptekin Ozkilic just seconds before it would have landed in the judges’ hands. Lineker was on his way to win a decision in the fight, however the flyweight the contest via TKO at 4:51 in Round 3.
Pat Healy may have seen his last fight in the octagon as he dropped his fourth straight fight and his fight before that was overturned to a no contest after he tested positive for banned substances in his win with over tonight’s headliner Jim Miller back in April of last year. Very few fighters have stayed employed by the UFC after losing four in a row. There is no official word yet but the news must be weighing on his conscience.
