UFC targeting Kelvin Gastelum vs. Jack Hermansson for July 18
A middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Jack Hermansson is in the works for July 18.
According to ESPN, contracts have not been signed, but both men have agreed to the matchup. The is expected to take place on “Fight Island.”
Kelvin Gastelum (16-5) will enter the fight in a rare position. For the first time in his career, Gastelum finds himself on a losing streak after dropping back-to-back fights to current champion Israel Adesanya and and Darren Till. Both fights were close and his loss to Adesanya was for the middleweight interim championship at UFC 236 in April 2019.
Jack Hermansson (20-5) was scheduled to fight former champion Chris Weidman on May 2, but the fight was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Norway native is coming off a second-round TKO loss to Jared Cannonier in September. Before dropping that fight, “The Joker” was on a four-fight winning streak.
