Glover Teixeira picks up split decision over Nikita Krylov in Vancouver
On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, the UFC returned to Vancouver for UFC on ESPN+ 16.
The event takes place at Rogers Arena and will be headlined by a lightweight showdown between Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje. Right before the fan-favorite main event, two very powerful light heavyweights meet in the co-main event as Glover Teixeira takes on Nikita Krylov.
At 39 years old, Teixeira is showing no signs of slowing down as he enters the fight after picking up back-to-back submission wins over Karl Roberson and Ion Cutelaba. The former light heavyweight title challenger has won three out of his last four, with the long defeat coming to Corey Anderson via unanimous decision.
Krylov has won five out of his last six fights, finishing all of his wins. In fact, Krylov has never gone to a decision in his career. Most recently, “The Miner” picked up a second round submission win over Ovince St. Preux at UFC 236 in April.

ROUND 1
As stated on the broadcast, Krylov has been eyeing this fight with Teixeira for a while now. Yves Lavigne gets them set and the co-main event of the evening has begun. They touch gloves and Krylov lands a leg kick early. Body kick from Krylov beats Teixeira to the point of contact. Teixeira gets a takedown and this is not where Krylov wants to be. Krylov trying to stay active off of his back, landing elbows. Teixeira lands some right hands and takes Krylov’s back with both hooks in. Teixeira looking to flatten out Krylov and is softening him up with punches. Teixeira is a little high on the back and Krylov shakes him off, ending up on top. Krylov mounts Teixeira and begins to open up with punches. Short elbow from Krylov. Teixeira explodes out and tries to attach a takedown. Krylov sneaks in a rear naked choke. Teixeira is able to escape and ends up on top. Krylov gets back to his feet as we approach the final minute. Nice knee and elbow on the break by Krylov. Teixeira ducks under a Krylov elbow and looks for another takedown, defended by Krylov. Big right hand from Teixeira sends Krylov back. Left lands by Teixeira. Krylov with a front kick to the body, followed by a combination of punches and the horn sounds.

ROUND 2
They begin the action in the second round and they trade shots. Krylov lands a kick, Teixeira lands a right hand. Jab by Krylov, Teixeira just misses a big right uppercut. Duck under right hand by Teixeira, Krylov with a push kick to the leg. They trade punches in the middle and Krylov just misses a right uppercut. Leg kick from Krylov. Teixeira with a big left hook and Krylov gets stunned momentarily. They trade shots again with Teixeira getting the better of it. Body kick from Krylov lands, followed by a combination. Teixeira shoots in, thwarted by Krylov. Both miss big punches as we are halfway through the round. Leg kick from Krylov and Teixeira lands a shot to the body. Right hand over the top by Teixeira, who then goes for a single leg after catching a kick. Krylov remains on his feet. Left hand lands by Glover. Big body kick from Teixeira with under 90 seconds left in the round. Nice combination by Krylov and Teixeira shoots in for a takedown. They battle against the fence, Krylov has the position and takes Teixeira down. Final 10 seconds and Krylov remains on top landing a short elbow before the round ends.

ROUND 3
They trade punches and Teixeira locks in a guillotine. Krylov remaining patient and escapes, taking Teixeira’s back. Glover reverses the position and ends up on top in full guard. Left hands land by Teixeira and jumps to half guard. Almost two minutes gone from the round and Krylov gets back to full guard. Teixeira grabs an arm and Krylov escapes with a double leg attempt. Krylov switches to a single and pushes Teixeira across the Octagon to the fence. Under two minutes to go in a very close fight. Knees to the thigh from Krylov and lands a takedown. Teixeira locks in a guillotine once again and Krylov slides out. Under a minute to go and Krylov just misses an elbow, lands a second attempt. Krylov trying to get to half guard and Teixeira tries to sweep and does. Glover Teixeira will end the round on top. Tough to score as Krylov goes to the judges’ scorecards for the first time in his career.
