UFC Vancouver results: Misha Cirkunov submits Jim Crute in first round
On Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, the UFC returned to Vancouver for UFC on ESPN+ 16.
The event takes place at Rogers Arena and will be headlined by a lightweight showdown between Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje. Before the 155-pounders take center stage, the light heavyweight division kicks off the main card as Misha Cirkunov takes on Jim Crute.
Cirkunov looks to return to his winning ways on Saturday after getting finished in just 36 second at UFC 235 in March. The 32-year-old from Toronto has lost three out of his last four after having a big start to his UFC career. A win over a gritty Crute will put Cirkunov on the path to climbing the divisional ladder.
That will be a tough task as Crute has yet to taste defeat in his professional career. After a first-round TKO win on Dana White’s Contender Series last July, the Australian has finished both of his Octagon appearances — a submission win over Paul Craig at UFC Adelaide, and a first round TKO of Sam Alvey at UFC 234.
Here is how the fight between Misha Cirkunov and Jim Crute went down to kick off the UFC Vancouver main card, including round-by-round scoring from MyMMANews.com. For full results of UFC Vancouver, check them out right here.
ROUND 1
After an exciting set of prelim fights, the main card is officially underway. Cirkunov throws a big head kick, blocked by Crute. Body kick lands by Cirkunov, who then takes the Australian down easily. Cirkunov tries to advance from the half guard position and gets to side control after landing some punches. Crute scrambles after a crucifix attempt by Cirkunov, who gets right back to side control. Cirkunov tries for the crucifix again, but Crute is able to scramble — but gets mounted. Crute reverses the position and lands a big right hand, then gets back to his feet. Cirkunov takes it back down and gets on top. Crute reverses and lands a barrage of punches, bloodying the eye of his opponent. Crute is unloading with punches now and Cirkunov is in trouble. Cirkunov sweeps and ends up on top landing punches. Guillotine attempt by Cirkunov and gets the tap. Big win for Cirkunov!
