“Slippery Pete” Peter Barrett is returning home. The longtime Cage Titans (Plymouth, MA) fan favorite is set to return, on Cage Titans first card since the pandemic, June 19th. Barrett competed on Dana White’s Contender Series, and went 0-2 under the UFC banner. Barrett was one of many cuts the UFC made, the Mass native wasn’t surprised by their choice, and is on the road back to the big show.
“No,” Barrett responded when asked if he was surprised by the cut. “I think him (Chase Hooper) and I were both on the chopping block. He just has time on his side, he’s hella young. I’ll be 35 in August, my shelf life in this sport is dwindling by the minute,” Barrett continued. “30 seconds after the fight was over, you can see the emotion wash off my face. That is when I really realized I was probably going to get released.”
Although no longer under contract with the UFC, Barrett is making his return to the rowdy fans of Massachusetts. On June 14th, Cage Titans is back in action. Barrett would not specify who his opponent is, or if he will be headlining, but said that it’ll be an exciting matchup for sure.
“Cage Titans is the flagship product for MMA in New England,” Barrett stated. “They are head to head with CES (MMA). I really want to fight 2 or 3 times by the end of August and get my hand raised in the UFC Octagon by the end of the year. Back in the UFC by the end of the year, that’s my goal.”
“The fight is going to be very exciting, I’m looking to smash my elbow through his forehead.”
