UFC working on fight for Nate Diaz, confirms Dana White
The UFC is working on a fight for promotional superstar Nate Diaz, confirmed UFC president Dana White when speaking to the media.
Diaz has been busy on social media as of late calling out a number of fighters including Conor McGregor, Vicente Luque, and Tony Ferguson. Most recently, he took to his Twitter to post a photo of Ferguson, foreshadowing a fight between the two. However, White says that is not the fight the UFC is going to book, although he admitted that the promotion has something else in the works for Diaz. Speaking to the media following UFC Vegas 41, White confirmed that Diaz has one fight left on his current contract with the promotion, and the UFC is currently in talks of booking his next fight.
“Yeah, he’s got one more fight. We’re working on a fight for him. Tony wasn’t one of the guys that we were working on, but yeah, we’re working on a fight for Nate now. He’s got one fight left,” White said of Diaz.
Diaz most recently fought at UFC 263 back in June when he lost a unanimous decision to Leon Edwards. However, although Diaz lost that fight, he did come back in the fifth round and even rocked Edwards with a punch. The fact that Diaz was able to go a hard five rounds against one of the best welterweights in the world and nearly finish him showed that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank, and he seems to be hungrier than ever to get back into the Octagon following that fight. It will be interesting to see who the UFC matches up Diaz with next. Luque does seem like the best option if he sticks around welterweight, but if Diaz goes back to lightweight, then Ferguson makes sense.
Who do you hope the UFC matches up Nate Diaz against?
