Umar Nurmagomedov, UFC Vegas 67

Umar Nurmagomedov remains undefeated, flattens Raoni Barcelos with vicious left hook at UFC Vegas 67

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, January 14, 2023, for UFC Vegas 67, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a light-heavyweight bout between no. 7 ranked middleweight contender Sean Strickland (25-5) and no. 12 ranked middleweight contender Nassourdine Imavov (12-3).

Imavov was initially slated to face no. 13 ranked Kelvin Gastelum, however, Gastelum has been forced from the bout with a tooth injury and was replaced by Strickland five days ago.

Co-headlining the event is a featherweight matchup between no. 13 ranked Dan Ige (15-6) and Damon Jackson (22-4-1-1).

Opening up the main card tonight was a bantamweight showdown between no. 11 ranked Umar Nurmagomedov (15-0) and Brazilian killer Raoni Barcelos (17-3).

Nurmagomedov is a former FMMAS and GFC bantamweight champion that’s gone 3-0 thus far in the big show, while Barcelos is a former RFA featherweight champion with a promotional record of 6-2.

Official Result: Umar Nurmagomedov def. Raoni Barcelos via KO (punch) at 4:40 of round one

Barcelos is holding his own early on, throwing some heavy high kicks that are landing on the arms of Nurmagomedov. The Russian on the other hand is using his range finding tools, such as his jab and front kick well.

Nurmagomedov didn’t shoot in on a single takedown in this fight, which may have surprised some. He didn’t need to, as he goes for a knee to the body that misses but lands a sharp left hook behind it that KO’s the Brazilian on the spot.

Barcelos is a good striker, his boxing is excellent, and he has very good kicks to go along with it, and Nurmagomedov just made that look easy.

Umar Nurmagomedov becomes the first man to ever finish Raoni Barcelos via strikes, as he improves his record to 16-0 tonight at UFC Vegas 67. This was the first standing knockout victory of the 26-year-old prodigy’s career.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
