Unified MMA 39’s Shane Campbell happy where he is, yet hopeful for UFC return in 2020
UFC veteran Shane Campbell discusses his upcoming co-main event bout against Dawond Pickney at Unified MMA 39. The event takes place Dec. 6 at River Cree Resort in Enoch, Alberta, Canada and will air on FITE TV.
“Shaolin” discusses the upcoming fight, getting an opponent switch-up and why he is used to that happening, what he has learned about his upcoming opponent — without giving away too many gameplay details, of course — how he sees the fight playing out, signing a multi-fight deal with fellow Canadian promotion Fight Night, what he’s doing with the latest in medical technology to stay as healthy as possible and much more.
In addition to his Unified MMA 39 bout Dec. 6, the 31-year-old Campbell has his next fight booked at Fight Night 12 against another UFC veteran in Mike Santiago Jan. 25. While he is happy that he is getting fights and signing deals with the potential to make a good chunk of money outside of the UFC, Campbell believes that is he can rattle off two victories over the next couple of months, a return to the Octagon is a strong possibility.
“I’m a very content person,” Campbell told MyMMANews.com. “I’ve always been happy with what I have and, yeah, it would be happy to be on the biggest stage in front of the most eyes but I am very happy with where I’m at and with the people I’m surrounded with. As long as I keep enjoying every day, I can’t complain.
“Along with Unified MMA, Fight Night is a great promotion to fight for. They’re matching me up with an ex-UFC vet and that’s a fight that, if I pull out this win and go into that fight with an ex-UFC guy, that is a bout, potentially, that whoever gets that one could get the call up — or at least be on deck for a short notice fight in the UFC if someone gets injured. Whoever were to win and is ready for the next one, there’s going to be a much higher chance of getting a short notice fight and signing the big deal.”
