Vadim Nemkov vs Corey Anderson anti-climatically ends in no contest
Bellator MMA returns to us tonight, April 15, 2022, for Bellator 277, going down live on Showtime at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
Headlining the event is a featherweight championship rematch between new Bellator featherweight champion AJ McKee, who faces Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire in the five round main event of the evening.
Co-headlining the card is a light-heavyweight championship bout between Vadim Nemkov (15-2) and no. 1 ranked Corey Anderson (16-5).
Nemkov is a four-time world champion in Combat Sambo, he’s a Fedor Emelianenko student, and he’s the Bellator light-heavyweight champion with two title defenses thus far into his young career.
Anderson on the other hand is a two-time NJCAA regional champion in freestyle wrestling. He also wrestled for NCAA Division II & NCAA Division III, and he’s a three-time All-American.
Anderson left the UFC having gone 4-1 through his last five, and he’s gone 3-0 with three finishes thus far in Bellator. Something’s got to give in this one, what a great match up!

Official Result:
Anderson is pressing the action, walking the champion down throwing heavy punches, though he’s missing most of them and eating a number of leg kicks. Both men attempt takedowns but both are too good defensively throughout the first five minutes.
After appearing to have lost the first, Anderson is able to secure a takedown and remain in top position for three minutes or so in the second. He spends most of it in Nemkov’s half guard reigning down punches and elbows.
Anderson secures another takedown about one minute into the second, and the tide is beginning to shift one way.
Nemkov tries for a guillotine choke, in attempt to stand up, but is unable to and gets put back on his back.
Anderson continues reigning down shots while Nemkov is attempting submissions, but is unable to secure them.
Vadim Nemkov endures a cut at the end of the third and the fight is stopped considering.
Just like the first fight between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling should not have resulted in a DQ, this shouldn’t have resulted in a no contest. Three full rounds of fighting were completed. This fight became anti-climatic very quick.
We have no light-heavyweight gran prix winner yet, it appears these two will have to run it back, just like the two talents in the main event tonight.
