Video: Alex Pereira knocks Jiri Prochazka out with head kick in UFC 303 main event
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, June 29, 2024 for UFC 303, going down live from the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
There were a number of cancellations tonight, such as the co-main event between Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes being switched to Lopes facing Dan Ige on a few short hours notice as Ortega is currently suffering from a fever.
There were a number of light-heavyweight bouts that fell through; former champion Jamahal Hill was slated to face Khalil Rountree before Rountree was forced out. Carlos Ulberg stepped up and took the fight against Hill before Hill withdrew and was replaced by Anthony Smith, and then Ulberg withdrew and got replaced by Roman Dolidze.
Then of course there was the scheduled main event between former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor and former multi-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, a fight that was cancelled as a result of McGregor suffering a broken toe earlier in the month.
Instead we got a rematch showcasing another two-division champion in Alex Pereira (11-2) and former UFC and Rizin light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka (30-5-1). These two juggernauts stepped up on three weeks notice for this title clash tonight.
What’s funny is they did the same thing last November at UFC 295 when Jon Jones withdrew from his title defense against Stipe Miocic. That’s the fight that replaced it, Pereira vs Prochazka 1, that one on just two weeks notice.
Twice these absolute killers stepped up and filled in for legends that couldn’t show up.

Official Result: Alex Pereira def. Jiri Prochazka via KO (head kick & punches) at :13 of round two
Pereira did a great job picking Prochazka apart throughout round one, landing a number of calf kicks early and a good left hook in the opening 90 seconds. He also landed several jabs to the body, as well as some counter right hands.
Pereira dropped Prochazka in the final seconds of the opening round with that trademark left hook of his, immediately hurting him again once round two started with a switch kick to the head.
Prochazka dropped and a few follow up shots is all it took for the referee to stop the action.

Alex Pereira is a truly special athlete, it’s just incredible what he’s been doing.
Since joining the UFC in late 2021 he has become the UFC middleweight champion, UFC light-heavyweight champion with now two defenses, and he has six wins over five world champions in that time: Sean Strickland (KO), Israel Adesanya (TKO), Jan Blachowicz (SD), Jiri Prochazka twice (TKO, KO), and Jamahal Hill (KO).
What’s more:
- Pereira was the first to ever defeat Strickland at 185 lbs, Strickland was 18-0 in the division throughout his career prior
- Pereira was the first man to ever defeat Adesanya at 185 lbs, Adesanya was 23-0 as a middleweight going in
- Since losing his rematch/quadrilogy to Adesanya, someone he has three wins over, he’s gone 4-0 and beat a UFC light-heavyweight champion in all four fights
- Jiri Prochazka is 14-2 in his last 16 with 13 finishes, both losses coming to Pereira, and Pereira snapped his 11-fight finish streak in their first fight
