Video: Derrick Lewis TKO’s Marcos Rogerio de Lima in 33 seconds at UFC 291, once again breaks record for most knockouts
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, July 29, 2023, for UFC 291, going down live from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Headlining the event is a lightweight rematch over five years in the making as former interim champions Dustin Poirier (29-7) and Justin Gaethje (24-4) finally go at it again following their Fight of the Year effort back in 2018.
Co-headlining the event is a 205 lb clash showcasing former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz (29-9-1) and former UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira (7-2).
Our feature fight of the evening came in the heavyweight division between Derrick Lewis (27-11) and Marcos Rogerio de Lima (21-9-1).
Lewis, following a four-fight win streak from 2019 to 2021, had gone 1-4 through his latest four appearances going into tonight’s bout, while de Lima came in on a two-fight win streak, having gone 4-1 over his last five.

Official Result: Derrick Lewis def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via TKO (flying knee & punches) at :33 of round one
Lewis throws a flying knee to begin the bout, landing it right on the chin of de Lima and dropping him on the spot. He reigns down some heavy punches before getting his leg locked up as de Lima searches for a heel hook.
Lewis is out of the leg lock quickly however and mounts de Lima immediately following, reigning down even heavier punches from mount. De Lima escapes mount but can’t get past bottom turtle position, where he ends up eating shots until the bout is stopped.

Derrick Lewis re-breaks the record for most knockouts in promotional history at UFC 291; he had the record at 13 until welterweight staple Matt Brown tied him with his KO victory over Court McGee earlier this year in May, and he breaks the record once again, as he now has 14 knockouts in his UFC career. This was also his 22nd knockout victory in 27 career wins, which is one of the higher knockout percentages in MMA history.
