Video: Ireland’s Ian Garry Scores Emphatic First-Round KO in UFC Debut
One of the most highly anticipated MMA fighters to emerge from the country of Ireland, 23-year-old Dubliner Ian “The Future” Garry made a statement in his UFC debut, knocking out Jordan Williams in the dying moments of the first round in front of a Madison Square Garden crowd at UFC 268.
The former Cage Warriors welterweight champion was forced to overcome adversity in the early portion of the fight, with Williams landing clean and often, busting Garry’s nose open. However, with less than 10 seconds left on the clock, the Irishman slipped an overhand left from Williams, before connecting with a well-time counter right hook to put the American down.

An emotional Ian Garry admitted to experiencing nerves for the first time in his life as he entered the bout, but announced a new wave of Irish in the UFC in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan:
“A wise Irish man once said before me. He stepped in this very cage, and he said ‘we’re not here to take part, we’re here to take over!’ And this is the takeover part two!”
