Volkan Oezdemir set to return at UFC Paris against Azamat Murzakanov
A light heavyweight banger has been added to UFC Paris as Volkan Oezdemir will take on Azamat Murzakanov.
The UFC announced on Wednesday that Oezdemir and Murzakanov will throw down on September 2 at UFC Paris. The event will go down from the Accor Arena and the main event will see Ciryl Gane take on Serghei Spivac.
Volkan Oezdemir (18-7) is coming off a decision loss to Nikita Krylov back at UFC 280 last October. The eighth-ranked light heavyweight has been inconsistent as of late as he’s 3-6 in his last nine and 1-3 in his last four. Before the loss to Krylov, he beat Paul Craig by decision after losing back-to-back fights to Magomed Ankalaev and Jiri Prochazka.
Oezdemir is 6-6 in the UFC and has wins over Aleksandar Rakic, Ilir Latifi, Ovince Saint Preux, Misha Cirkunov, and Jimi Manuwa. He also fought for UFC gold at UFC 220 when he lost by second-round TKO to Daniel Cormier.
Azamat Murzakanov (13-0) is a perfect 3-0 in the UFC and picked up the biggest win of his career as he beat Dustin Jacoby by decision back in April. He is currently ranked 11th at light heavyweight and is set to fight someone ranked in the top 10 for the first time in his career.
To kick off his UFC career, Murzakanov beat Tafon Nchukwi by a third-round KO and then beat Devin Clark by a third-round TKO. To earn his spot in the UFC. Murzakanov knocked out Matheus Scheffel in the first round of the Contender Series.
