Carlos Prates violently KO’s Li Jingliang at UFC 305

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, August 17, 2024, for UFC 305, going down live from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Headlining the event is a title bout at 185 lbs between UFC middleweight champion between Dricus Du Plessis (21-2) and former two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (24-3).

Co-headlining the event is a title eliminator bout in the flyweight division between no. 4 ranked Kai Kara-France (24-12) and no. 7 ranked Steve Erceg (12-2).

Opening up the UFC 305 main card tonight was a welterweight encounter between a pair of knockout artists in Li Jingliang (19-9) and Carlos Prates (20-6).

Jingliang hadn’t fought in 23 months going into tonight’s main card slot as he was rehabbing from a back injury, while Prates had gone 2-0 thus far into his promotional tenure, both wins coming via knockout and both wins coming in 2024.

In fact, Prates came in on a nine-fight win streak, his last eight-straight coming via knockout, while Jingliang boasted eight knockouts in 11 promotional victories to date.

Official Result: Carlos Prates def. Li Jingliang via KO (punches) at 4:02 of round two

Prates really started tagging Jingliang up once the bout began, repeatedly landing his straight left and stunning him on multiple occasions, securing three knockdowns in the opening five minutes.

Prates continued his success on the feet in the second, dropping Jingliang with a two-punch combination midway through the round. He kept landing that left hand at will, hurting Jingliang worse and worse with it each time it landed leading up to the KO victory toward the end of round two, improving him to 3-0 in the UFC with three knockouts.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
