Paddy Pimblett, UFC 304

Watch: Paddy Pimblett chokes Bobby Green unconscious with triangle choke at UFC 304

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, July 27, 2024, for UFC 304, going down live from the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.

Headlining the event is a welterweight title bout between defending champion Leon Edwards (22-3) and no. 2 ranked Belal Muhammad (23-3), a rematch of their 2021 encounter that resulted in a no contest.

Co-headlining the event is also a championship rematch, this one coming in the heavyweight division between interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall (14-3) and no. 4 ranked Curtis Blaydes (18-4).

Our feature fight of the evening came in the lightweight division between no. 15 ranked Bobby ‘King’ Green (32-16-1) and former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Paddy Pimblett (22-3).

Green had gone 3-1 over his latest four appearances, defeating the likes of Tony Ferguson (arm-triangle choke), Grant Dawson (KO), and Jim Miller (UD), with the defeat coming to Jalin Turner (KO) last December.

Pimblett on the other hand had gone a perfect 5-0 inside the octagon to date, defeating the likes of Luigi Vendramini (KO), Kazula Vargas (rear naked choke), Jordan Leavitt (rear naked choke), Jared Gordon (UD), and Tony Ferguson (UD).

Official Result: Paddy Pimblett def. Bobby Green via technical submission (triangle choke) at 3:22 of round one

Pimblett landed a stiff jab right out of the gate, soon after getting his leg kicks going. Green surprisingly was the first to shoot on a takedown, Pimblett of which immediately wrapped up a guillotine choke. He beautifully transitioned to a triangle choke as he let the guillotine go, eventually switching it to an armbar, though it was unnecessary as Green was already unconscious.

This was by far the biggest win of Pimblett’s career, and a shocking one at that. Most of us believed Green would be the better striker, and many believed his takedown defense would keep him on the feet. Instead, he shot on a takedown against a 1st-degree BJJ black belt and paid for it dearly.

Paddy Pimblett improves to 6-0 inside the octagon tonight at UFC 304, becoming the first man to ever submit Green inside the UFC.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
