WCC XII Results – Zea is Shutt Down, An M-80 Goes Off, Romero King of Heavies
World Cagefighting Championships held their third card within a one month span bringing WCC XII to the fans of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The 13-bout event was held at the Lancaster Host Resort and featured 11 amateur and two professional bouts.
In the main even Blaine Shutt literally shut down the game of Alejandro Zea with a triangle choke submission at 4:19 in the very first round.
Desmond ‘M80’ Moore was explosive as he peppered Springfield, Ohio native Adam Roll with a number of jabs with his left hand. Moore has evolved into a multi-dimensional fighter expanding his fight repertoire to more than just wrestling. The 115-pound ticking time bomb was able to put Roll away at 4:23 in the second round via TKO. For their efforts Moore and Roll earned the MyMMANews Fight of the Night.
Jon Romero became the king of the WCC heavyweights as he dominated Steve Sooy for three full rounds to claim the organization’s amateur heavyweight title.
Lancaster residents Zak Kelly, Shawn Jones, Mike Serrano, Justin Flaharty and Shane Wilson all walked out to a huge pop from the crowd as they were the hometown favorites.
History was made in WCC as the Shannon Schade and Kasey Mathews competed in the first ever female MMA fight for the organization. The fight was incredible from start to finish but nothing was more exciting that the fight also ended in the organization’s first ever omoplata submission as well. If you recall earlier this year Ben Saunders became the UFC’s first fighter to ever finish a fight with the hold in the promotion’s 20 plus year history, proving that is not a common fight ending technique.
Because of the great accomplishment Mathews was awarded the MyMMANews Submission of the Night but will also share the recognition with Shawn Jones who was able to submit James Murray in just 29 seconds into their fight. Both submissions were equally entertaining.
Damien Melendez was able to right his ship after suffering four consecutive losses as he defeated Justin Flaharty via unanimous decision.
