Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk targeted for UFC 248
Joanna Jedrzejczyk will once again get another shot at the strawweight championship at UFC 248 in March.
MMA Fighting first reported that current champion Weili Zhang will make her first title defense against the greatest 115-pounder of all time.
The card is set for March 7. No venue has been confirmed for the fight. There is also no official main event, but rumors say a middleweight championship fight between Israel Adesyna and Yoel Romero will be the headliner.
Zhang (20-1) claimed the belt in August when she defeated Jessica Andrade by a first round TKO.
Jedrzejczyk (16-3) reigned over the strawweight division from 2015-2017. This fight will be her 10th title fight, which increases in her UFC women’s record for championship fights.
In Jedrzejczyk’s last fight, she flawlessly defeated Michelle Waterson in the main event at UFC Tampa in October.
Since Jedrzejczyk’s last victory the two have been taking shots at one another on social media and in interviews. Recently UFC President Dana White went to Instagram to say he’s excited for the fight.
Jedrzejczyk is currently in her native country of Poland where she’s just getting back to working out following a foot injury in her last fight. In a recent Instagram story she said she plans on returning to American Top Team in January.
