Why is the Fury Family so Good at Boxing?
Tyson Fury is a household name around the world. He’s one of the most outspoken, eccentric, and nonchalant characters ever to grace the already charismatic sport of boxing. Standing at a whopping 6 foot 9 inches (206cm), “The Gypsy King” is currently considered one of the world’s greatest pound-for-pound boxers and the lineal World Heavyweight Champion.
Tyson Fury is undoubtedly a great boxer, having seen off the likes of Derek Chisora, Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder, and Francis Ngannou on his way to claiming several Championship belts and titles. But it seems his aptitude for boxing goes beyond rigorous training schedules and an acutely dedicated mindset; it seems there’s something special in his genes.
The son of John Fury, a former bare-knuckle boxer, Tyson has a range of family members who are also involved in the sport. The Fury family has birthed at least nine professional boxers in recent decades, making it hard to find a sports betting news article that doesn’t feature a member of the Fury clan. And when one of them steps into the ring to fight, the odds are usually in their favor.
Perhaps the most well-known Fury relative in recent times is Tommy Fury, a graduate of the British hit reality show Love Island. After finishing runner-up on the program with model-turned-influencer Molly-Mae Hague, his professional boxing career began to take off. His record currently stands at 10-0-0, with the Fury brother seeing off the likes of YouTubers KSI and Jake Paul during his undefeated run. A bet on Tommy Fury never seems too bad an idea, especially since he’s got the inexplicable Fury-boxing gene within him.
Aside from boxing brothers, the Gypsy King has also relied on several family members to get him to where he is now. As well as his father, John, he has been coached by his two uncles, Peter and Hughie, the latter of whom was responsible for training Tyson during his first sixteen fights. But it was Peter Fury, a notorious drugs baron and money launderer in the past, who was credited for Tyson’s masterful victory over Klitschko in 2015 to become the Unified World Heavyweight Champion.
The world of professional boxing has seen an almost far-fetched number of Fury clan members make names for themselves in the sport over the years. Boxing has done so much for the Furys, a previously poor family with Irish-Gypsy heritage, but you cannot deny that the family has also done so much for the sport. The world would be a different place without Tyson, Peter, Tommy, John, and the rest of the Fury clan.
However they do it, let’s hope their family brings us even more boxing thrills in years to come.
