Yaroslav Amosov says title defense at Bellator 291 makes him the best welterweight alive
Yaroslav Amosov believes his Bellator 291 title defense cemented the fact he is the best welterweight in MMA, in any promotion.
Amosov was set to defend his belt against the interim champ in Logan Storley, as the Ukranian was returning after helping defend his country in the war against Russia. It was a big moment for Amosov and he exceeded expectations as he dominated Storley to win a decision and after the win, the Bellator welterweight champ believes that secured him as the best welterweight alive.
“Of course (I’m the best in the world). I am here. If a UFC champion wants to fight, come to Bellator. Scott Coker will give the contract, and we’ll make the fight,” Amosov said after Bellator 291.
Although the first fight against Storley was close, Amosov was confident he would have his way in the rematch which he did. He also says the win is massive for Ukraine as it has been an emotional time for him and his country.
“I feel very good because I waited for this for a long time,” Amosov said. “I train hard training, and I feel a lot of motivation and responsibility. I’ll relax after the fight, and I’m happy because I think I gave my country a good day. It’s the first time I’ve had big support in the cage. In America, I’ve had support, but not like today – many Ukrainian flags, many Ukrainian people. Thank you for my country. Thank you for my army and the fans. It was for my country. Today, I think it is a very good day for my country to hold two gold belts.”
With the win, Yaroslav Amosov improved to 27-0 and is a perfect 8-0 in Bellator. Prior to the win over Storley to defend his belt for the first time, he beat Douglas Lima to win the title. In his Bellator tenure, he also holds notable wins over Ed Ruth, Gerald Harris, and David Rickels among others.
