2014 NWCA All-Star Classic Results
The NWCA All-Star Classic was a huge success Saturday night at the University of Pennsylvania. The Palestra on the UPENN Campus was packed by an announced attendance of 5,284 fans. Even with the absence of Logan Stieber vs. Mitchell Port matchup, the 2014 NWCA All-Star Classic delivered. The All-Star Classic presented fans with plenty of action, creation of rivalries, and upsets.
Two defending NCAA Champions fell short in their 2014-2015 season debuts. Scott Schiller solved the puzzle to dragging J’Den Cox to the ground. Earning two takedowns, Schiller earned the sudden victory win.
Northwestern’s Mike McMullan out scrambled North Carolina State’s Gwiazdowski to stretch his lead at the end of the second period of the match. McMullan sealed the match with a score of 8-4 over the defending NCAA Champion.
A.J. Schopp of Edinboro avenged his last season loss at the All-Star Classic, winning by decision over Lehigh’s Mason Beckman, 4-2. As 15 seconds remained in the match, Schopp took the lead with a takedown, and tacked on an extra point after earning riding time.
Returning NCAA 157-pound champion Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State posted his first victory at his new weight class of 165-pounds. Dieringer defeated University of Virginia’s Nick Sulzer by a score of 4-2.
