5 Reasons Why Joanna Jedrzejczyk Will Fight For the Belt
With Jessica Andrade dethroning Rose Namajunas at UFC 237 over the weekend, the question of who is next in line for a strawweight title fight immediately comes into play and luckily this question can be answered in two words. Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Jedrzejczyk, who previously defended the UFC strawweight belt five times, has to be next line over other possible challengers like Namajunas, Tatiana Suarez, Nina Ansaroff and Michelle Waterson.
While those other fighters will likely try to make their case, here are five reasons why Joanna Jedrzejczyk is going to be next.
1. She’s the Strawweight Queen
You heard that right. Bow down. Jedrzejczyk’s record in the UFC at strawweight is 9-2. She has beaten everyone in that division that has stepped in front of her with the exception of Namajunas. Also, if you are going to bring Namajunas’ name into this you must note that Jedrzejczyk out struck Namajunas in every round of their controversial second fight. There is no fighter in that division that has a better resume than Jedrzejczyk.
2. She already has a win over Andrade
In May of 2017, Jedrzejczyk and Andrade squared off in the co-main event of UFC 211. In that fight Jedrzejczyk put on a clinic and pulled off arguably the best performance of her career. Jedrzejczyk landed a total of 225 strikes; the most in UFC title fight history. People love seeing rematches so why not run this one back given they have previously fought?
3. She’s a Draw
When Jedrzejczyk first entered the UFC she was a girl from Poland whose last name was too hard to pronounce. Now she is a star. In her native country she is on national media stations all the time, she’s doing big time commercials, and fans will wait hours to see her. In the United States, it is practically the same as she has made her rounds on big time TV programs like Kelly & Ryan and she is a fan favorite. On Instagram 1.3 million people follow her as she has one of the best social media followings in the game. Not to mention she has been on some of the biggest UFC cards in the company’s history.
4. She’s a Great Company Person
Jedrzejczyk has said time and time again, that people must think all she does is kiss Dana White’s butt. Truth is she works hard, shows up to UFC fan event’s, interacts with all her fans on social media, and shows up on fight night. Dana White himself has said several times how much he loves having her in the UFC.
5. The Other Contenders Résumé’s Need Work
Namajunas, while a former a champion with wins over Jedrzejczyk, has been extremely inactive throughout her career. Suarez and Ansaroff have been on absolute tears, but they do not have Jedrzejczyk’s star power. Waterson has become a household name, but she may have to win another fight before truly being able to contend for a belt.
