Aaron Jeffery discusses win over Austin Vanderford, new Bellator contract, and more
Aaron Jeffery was not originally scheduled to fight Austin Vanderford at Bellator 284, but he mentioned to his team of management and coaches that if there was a chance he could step in, he’d be very interested in stepping up. As fate would have it, Vanderford’s original opponent was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury and Jeffery got the opportunity he was waiting for.
When it came to the matchup between himself and Vanderford, there wasn’t any cockiness from Aaron Jeffery, just a belief and confidence in himself and his skillset that he would be the better fighter. Indeed he was the better fighter when he stepped in on just 9 days notice and got the victory over Vanderford in just 85 seconds of the first round.
The win at Bellator 284 was the second consecutive for Aaron Jeffery in just as many fights with Bellator MMA. In an interview with MyMMANews this week, he also revealed that he has signed on a new six-fight deal with the promotion. On top of the new contract with the promotion, Jeffery found himself as the sixth-ranked fighter in the middleweight division after not being ranked coming into the fight against Vanderford.
Now riding a three-fight winning streak and having two consecutive victories since joining Bellator MMA, Jeffery is aiming to make the most of his new contract. While he wouldn’t focus on one specific opponent for his next matchup, he did say that he’d be open to fighting Dalton Rosta who is undefeated and ranked one spot ahead of him in the division.
Aiming to return later this fall in either October or November, Aaron Jeffery said he’s at a pretty good spot in his career and he’s happy, but there’s still work to be done on his journey to the middleweight championship.
