AJ McKee vs. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire Rematch targeted for April
This last summer, we saw the young rising star AJ McKee challenge Patricio “Pitbull” Freire for the Bellator featherweight strap. The fight, which had quite a lot of hype around it, ended in just two minutes. So, there we had it, “and the new Bellator featherweight world champion, the Mercenary A.J. McKee!”
It was the finals of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix where these two top featherweights first met, and according to Ariel Helwani, these two will meet again in April.
For the former two-division champion, Patricio “Pitbull” Freire he has recently seemed to take more of a focus on the featherweight rematch against AJ McKee when he vacated his lightweight title to focus on regaining his featherweight strap.
Also following the win at Bellator 263, there were questions as to if the 26-year-old AJ McKee would move up to lightweight to attempt to be a two-division champion himself. But it seems that both men will meet again at featherweight for an extremely exciting rematch.
If or when this rematch is finalized, there is a lot at stake for both men. For “Pitbull,” it is a chance at redemption. A chance to prove that his historic Bellator championship run is still ongoing and a chance to further develop an already impressive resume. For AJ McKee, this is a chance to grow his legacy, to cement himself as the best featherweights not only in Bellator but in any organization.
This is going to be a fun one with quite a lot of implications. Make sure to stay up to date at MyMMANews.com as this rematch develops.
