Aleksei Oleinik vs Travis Browne

Aleksei Oleinik vs Travis Browne being targeted for International Fight Week

Russian heavyweight Aleksei Oleinik (also spelled Oleksiy Oliynyk or Alexey Oleynik) is being targeted for a July 8 fight with Travis ‘Hapa’ Browne for UFC 213 in Las Vegas.

Sources close to Oleinik’s camp have confirmed that talks are taking place to book the fight as part of the International Fight Week fight lineup.

Oleinik has won 12 of his last 13 fights, most recently with a rarely used Ezekiel Choke over Viktor Pesta. Although the submission is rare in mixed martial arts competition, it is not for Oleinik.  The win over Pesta marked his 11th MMA victory by Ezekiel Choke.

Oleinik holds a professional record of 51-10-1, compared to Browne’s 18-6-1.  The argument can made that Browne has faced stiffer competition over the years and will also have youth on his side as there is a more than five year difference between the two.

Browne has dropped the last three fights, most recently to Derrick Lewis in Albany, New York.

The UFC has not officially announced the Browne-Oleinik fight, however a a heavyweight trilogy fight between Alistair Overeem and Werdum has been confirmed for the card.
