Alessio Di Chirico snaps three fight losing skid, KO’s Buckley in 1

The UFC’s first event of the new year will make history on “Fight Island” today, Saturday, Jan. 16.

A battle between the former featherweight king Max Holloway and rising contender Calvin Kattar serves as the headliner of UFC on ABC 1. It is the promotion’s first card to air on the ABC network.

The co-main event features a contest between two long-time UFC welterweights as Carlos Condit faces Matt Brown.

In a middleweight featured bout, rising star Joaquin Buckley looked to keep jaw-dropping, viral KO’s coming as he faces Alessio Di Chirico.

Di Chirico, however, had other plans as he came into this fight snapping a 3 fight losing skid. His last win came previously via split decision in 2018 at The Ultimate Fighter 27 finale.

Di Cherico returned in a big way, for sure with his amazing first-round head kick KO over Joaquin Buckley.

Round 1:
The fighters don’t bother touching hands and get to right to work with Buckley committing first to punches upstairs. Buckley attacks early and viciously, coming forward with heavy hands. Di Chirico is steady with his counter punches, sneaking in quick punches between Buckley’s blitz. Buckley begins slowing the pace with Di Chirico landing pinpoint punches more consistently. Di Chirico fires a rear right leg head kick to put a stamp on the contest. Buckley drops upon impact and Di Chirico goes to pounce, landing a hammer fist. The referee is already on his way in to stop the contest as Di Chirico gets back into the win column by impressive KO.

Official Result: Alessio Di Chirico defeats Joaquin Buckley via head kick KO.
