Alex Caceres receives third opponent, set to face UFC newcomer Austin Springer on Saturday
Alex Caceres will remain on the UFC Vegas 8 card on Saturday night and has received his third different opponent.
Originally, Caceres was supposed to fight Giga Chikadze. Unfortunately, Chikadze was forced out of the card and was then replaced by Kevin Croom. Yet, that booking was only set for a day as Croom was pulled due to undisclosed reasons and was released from his contract.
Now, just days away from the event, MMAFighting reports that Austin Springer has agreed to step up on short notice to face Caceres. Springer has since confirmed the news on his social media.
Alex Caceres is currently riding a two-fight winning streak and coming off an upset win over Chase Hooper at UFC 250. Before that, he edged out a controversial decision win over Steven Peterson to get back into the win column after being submitted by Kron Gracie.
“Bruce Leroy” is currently 16-12 as a pro including being 11-10 and one no-contest inside the Octagon. He has been in the UFC since 2011.
Austin Springer, meanwhile, is coming off a decision win over Kevin Boehm in October of last year. Before that, he submitted Giga Chikadze on the Contender Series but did not get a UFC contract. The 33-year-old was also on The Ultimate Fighter 22 but was knocked out by Chris Gruetzmacher.
In his career, Springer has a notable win over Toby Miesch and has fought the likes of Julian Erosa and Steven Siler losing by knockout and submission respectively.
