Dennis “the Great” Buzukja says hard work will pay off in main event of Dana White’s Contender Series bout

Interview with Dennis Buzukja above

Dennis “the Great” Buzukja is the reigning Ring of Combat featherweight champion.  His most recent fight in January when he won the belt, was one of the most exciting battles I have seen in recent memory.  ROC President Louis Neglia said it may have been the best fight he has seen at any level.  Neglia told MyMMANews that he called Dana White and insisted that he watch this fight and that Dennis was ready for the UFC despite only being 22-years-old.

White agreed and now Buzukja is scheduled for the main event on week 5 of Dana White’s Contender Series  (Sep 1) where he will take on Melsik Baghdasaryan.  Both men sport the same 4-1 MMA record, but Melsik does have numerous kickboxing fights on his resume.

That should not phase Dennis as he trains every day with some of the best fighters in the world at Serra-Longo.  I caught up with Buzukja recently to get his input on camp and his opportunity to try and earn that contract.  He tells us…

“My team is the best in the world.  Aljo (Aljamain Sterling) is fighting for the UFC belt.  Merab Dvalishvili is breaking into the top 10, already breaking records, Al Iaquinta fighting Khabib on a days notice for 5 rounds.  Former world champ Chris Weidman and I don’t want to slight anyone but there is a long list of killers who are coming up as well.  For this camp I had Glory kick-boxer “Super” Elvis Gashi come in to help out and also Olympic wrestler Vilson Ndregioni. In the gym, everyday is a war.  Training is way harder than the fights.  The fights are fun.  Training with guys like this, I just get to the fight and let it loose in there.”

Please check out our full interview above. Dennis has put in lots of work and loves what he does. He is just getting started and the future is extremely bright for this young mixed martial artist.Dennis Buzukja Dennis Buzukja Dennis Buzukja
