Alex Oliveira earns unanimous decision win over Peter Sobotta

The UFC’s last fight card from “Fight Island” before heading back to U.S. soil is a big one with seven fights on the main card.

The main event will feature two top middleweight contenders in former champion Robert Whittaker and former welterweight title challenger Darren Till.

This card also features former champions in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Fabricio Werdum and Carla Esparza.

Also tonight, Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira meets Peter Sobotta in a welterweight bout.

Alex Oliveira (20-8-1, 2 NC) will be making his second appearance of 2020. He picked up a win over Max Griffin at UFC 248 in March. Prior to that win, the veteran was on a three-fight losing streak.

Sobotta (17-6-1) is fighting for the first time since March of 2018 when he lost to Leon Edwards. He is 4-2 in the UFC.

Here’s how their right went down with a round-by-round breakdown and scoring.

Round 1

Oliveira opens up with a leg kick and then a nice kick to the body.

Sobotta lands a body shot and that’s literally all the action 90 seconds into the fight. Big feeling out process.

Oliveira lands a front kick to the body and Sobotta is hurt. Sobotta is circling around trying to catch his breath after eating the body shot.

Sobotta comes forward with heavy shots, but Oliveira has nice head move and dodges both punches.

Oliveira goes to the body again. He’s having a ton of success with the kicks to the body.

Sobotta has something wrong with his arm. A lot of red around it. Broadcast team is saying he may have broken his forearm trying to block a kick. You can tell it’s bothering him by the way his arm dangling.

Round 2

Oliveira opens the round with a leg kick.

Sobotta comes in for a takedown, but Oliveira stuffs. Oliveira now has his back against the cage. While against the cage, Oliveira lands some elbows that have opened a cut on the top of Sobotta’s head.

After breaking the clinch, Oliveira is looking smooth on his feet and is landing some nice straight punches.

Moments later, Oliveira goes for another front kick to the body, but this one misses and lands low. The referee stops the fight for Sobotta to take a moment after the low blow.

Two minutes left in the round when action resumes and Oliveira looks confident while controlling the octagon.

Now in the final minutes of the round, Oliveira now accidentally pokes Sobotta in the eye and the referee once again stops the fight and asks a doctor to come in and check out Sobotta’s eye.

The doctor allows the fight to continue and once the fight resumes Oliveira lands a huge shot that drops Sobotta has the round comes to a close.

Round 3

Oliveira lands a head kick to start the round.

Sobotta then comes in for a takedown, but was unsuccessful.

Oliveira lands a kick to the body again, but now it appears that Oliveira is hurt after landing the kick.

Two minutes left in the round and Sobotta needs to do something. He tries coming in and Oliveira lands a nice jab.

Final minute of the round and Oliveira is causing to a win. Sobotta can’t get anywhere near Oliveira without taking a shot.
