Alexander Gustafsson targeted to return in July against Nikita Krylov

Alexander Gustafsson returns

European veterans Alexander Gustafsson and Nikita Krylov are slated to meet on July 23rd.

According to Frontkick Online, the bout will take place in the light heavyweight division, and it is yet to be determined if the night of the fights will be a Fight Night or pay-per-view.

“The Mauler” Gustafsson (18-7-0) will be making his return to the light-heavyweight division after a short stint at heavyweight. His sole fight at heavyweight came against Fabricio Werdum back in 2020, which he ultimately lost via armbar.

As a long-time light heavyweight contender, Gustafsson not only fought for the championship belt three times, but he holds spectacular victories over the likes of Jimi Manuwa, former champion Jan Blachowicz, and current champion Glover Teixeira.

The Swedish fan-favorite will look to get back in the win column at his primary weight class as he takes on 11th-ranked Krylov.

“The Miner” Krylov (27-9-0) will walk into the octagon coming off of consecutive losses to Magomed Ankalaev and Paul Craig. As a light-heavyweight contender in the UFC, the 29-year-old has collected victories over Ovince St. Preux and Johnny Walker since making his way to the promotion from Fight Nights Global.

The night of fights is expected to take place on July 23rd at the O2 Arena in London and will also feature a flyweight matchup between Charles Johnson and Muhammad Mokaev.

Tom Aspinall is also expected to return at the event.
