Alexander Gustafsson signs new UFC deal

Former light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson has signed a new contract with the UFC and could be returning to the Octagon in the near future. Gustafsson took to Instagram to announce his new deal and in the process of doing so, he took a shot at current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

Cormier has been very open about his retirement plans, which he has set to March 2019 and considering that Cormier has a heavyweight title fight against Stipe Miocic in July, Gustafsson has no idea if or when he’ll get a chance to rematch the champion. With all the retirement talk coming from Cormier, Gustafsson decided to let his plans be known for his future when he announced his new deal.

Included in the post is Gustafsson saying his deal is the biggest one of his career, meaning he’s likely secured some nice pay days for himself in his future fights. With Cormier preparing for Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones currently on the sidelines, there are not many options awaiting Gustafsson, although he has been engaging in a back-and-forth with former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, who has said he’d like to move up to light heavyweight.

Gustafsson is 18-4 in his career while currently holding a 10-4 record under the UFC, and is riding a two-fight win streak including a masterful KO win over Glover Teixeira back in May 2017.
