Alexander Volkov set to face Alexandr Romanov at Fight Night event in March
A heavyweight scrap between Alexander Volkov and Alexandr Romanov is set to go down in March.
According to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport NL, Volkov is set to take on Romanov on March 11 at a Fight Night card set to go down at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event of the card sees Petr Yan take on Merab Dvalishvili at bantamweight.
Alexander Volkov (35-10) is coming off a first-round TKO win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik back in June after being submitted in the first round by Tom Aspinall in the main event of UFC London last March. The Russian is currently ranked eighth at heavyweight and has been in the UFC since 2016. This will also be the first time Volkov isn’t headlining a card since the win over Marcin Tybura, while the Russian has headlined four of his last five fights.
The former Bellator and M-1 heavyweight champion in Volkov is 9-4 in the UFC and holds notable wins over Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, and Stefan Struve among others.
Alexandr Romanov (16-1) suffered his first career loss back at UFC 278 as he dropped a majority decision to Marcin Tybura in a fight Romanov was nearly a -400 favorite. Prior to the loss, Romanov was a perfect 5-0 in the UFC with stoppage wins over Chase Sherman, Jared Vanderaa, Marcos Rogerio de Lima, and Roque Martinez with his other win coming by decision against Juan Espino. The 32-year-old is currently ranked 13th at heavyweight.
