Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris rescheduled for May 16
Turns out Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris will fight after all as their bout has been rescheduled for a UFC Fight Night on May 16.
The fight was originally scheduled to be the main event on April 11, but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. MMA Fighting reported the fight being moved to May. The fight is not expected to headline the May 16 card.
Overeem (45-18) suffered a heart breaking loss in his last outing, being knocked out by Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the fifth round of their fight. Overeem had a nasty cut on his lip following the knockout. Prior to the loss, Overeem was on a two fight winning streak.
Harris (13-7) will be returning to the octagon for the first time since the tragic death of his stepdaughter Aniah Blanchard, who was murdered. He was initially scheduled to fight Overeem last December, but he pulled out of the fight to comfort his family during the tragedy.
Harris last fought in July of last year picking up a knockout win over Aleksei Olenik. Harris needed only 12 seconds to finish off Olenik. He is 3-0 (1 NC) in his last four fights.
