Amanda Nunes will not defend title against Megan Anderson at UFC 256
UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes will not defend her title at 145-pound against Megan Anderson on December 12.
Nunes was set to headline UFC 256 and defend her featherweight strap but an undisclosed injury has forced her to withdraw from competition.
While an injury may be the cause for removal, it does not appear that the fight will be entirely lost, and could be contested in early 2021.
“Wishing Amanda a speedy recovery,” Anderson wrote on social media. “UFC are rescheduling the bout for a date early next year. The goal remains the same. We’ll be ready.”
A bantamweight title bout between champion Petr Yan and challenger Aljamain Sterling was slated as the co-main event for the night and will likely be promoted to the main event following the loss of the women’s title bout.
