Andre Fili picks up first win in over two years over Bill Algeo at UFC Vegas 60

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, September 17, 2022, for UFC Vegas 60, going down live from the Apex Center in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a bantamweight clash, as no. 4 ranked Cory Sandhagen (14-4) faces no. 10 ranked Song Yadong (19-5-1-1) in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining the event is a middleweight encounter between Chidi Njokuani (22-7) and Gregory Rodrigues (12-4).

Our feature fight of the evening came in the featherweight division between Andre Fili (21-9) and Bill Algeo (16-6).

Fili once had the same praise as a young Conor McGregor, being the slick, fluent striker he is. However, he’s gone winless in his last three bouts, and at 32 years old, the time is now or never for him.

Algeo on the other hand is 3-2 inside the octagon and came in on a two-fight win streak.

Official Result: Andre Fili def. Bill Algeo via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Fili looks very sharp throughout the first five minutes. Both men land some nice strikes on one another, but Fili’s straight right hand landed hard a couple times, and he landed three head kicks in the first round. Following two of the head kicks, he then went to the body with a couple, before returning to the head.

The last one opened up a gash on Algeo’s head. Algeo begins to let go of some strikes himself, and he starts to take control in the second. He was getting to the punch quicker than Fili throughout the first three or so minutes, but Fili had a good end to the round. That was a close one.

It’s either 19-19 or 20-18 Fili going into the third and final round.

Fili secures a beautifully timed double leg in the third and after a minute or so of scrambles, Fili settles in back mount with a body triangle. He comes incredibly close to finishing the fight with a rear naked choke, but ultimately rode out the position until the final bell sounded.

Yet another split decision that probably shouldn’t have been a split decision here tonight at UFC Vegas 60, but at least both went to the correct man.

Andre Fili improves his record to 22-9 (1 NC) tonight, as he picks up his first win in over two years.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
