Andy Nguyen enjoying new role as matchmaker for King of the Cage
South Carolina is where it all began for Andy Nguyen and her mixed martial arts career back in 2010; and “The Palmetto State” is where “The CrAsian” will continue to plant her roots now in 2019.
Having fought close to 20 amateur bouts and another 14 as a professional, Nguyen is one of the more seasoned competitors in the sport.
Her tenure in the sport has not gone unnoticed, and it was her experience that led Nguyen to her new calling. “The CrAsian” will help serve as matchmaker for King of the Cage in the southeast region to include her stomping grounds in South Carolina.
“The owner of KOTC said I had many talents,” Nguyen told MyMMANews.
“I’ve recruited some of the atomweights and strawweights to the promotion. The event is on May 11 at the SRP Baseball Stadium in North Augusta, South Carolina. When I first heard its coming to my home state, I was like ‘Oooohh I wanna fight.’ Then I was like, ‘I want to be a ring girl for my teammates.’
“Then I texted my boss and said, ‘You know I know the Southeast region, let me match make.”
Nguyen is not new to the King of the Cage promotion. The 36-year old fighter has competed six times for the promotion, including winning the KOTC atomweight championship.
But just because Nguyen has taken on a larger workload does not mean she is hanging up the gloves.
“So here we are! I have 6 ammy fights including 2 female fights at strawweight and flyweight. There’s 6 pro fights. I’m trying to add a female pro fight but its still under negotiation. I didn’t retire from MMA. I am signed with Lion Fights (Muay Thai) while I match make for KOTC. Kaitlin Young was Invicta’s matchmaker. She came back and won her MMA fight. So, who knows what’s in store but I’m defintely going to be in any of these positions: Fighter/ ring girl/ matchmaker…. BECAUSE I CAN!!!!“
