Angela Lee – “I’ve faced world-class strikers in my career, and never once was I afraid”
Angela Lee not afraid of Stamp Fairtex
“Unstoppable” Angela Lee returns to action later this month at ONE Championship’s 10-year-anniversary fight card, ONE: X.
The 25-year-old Lee will step into the cage for the first time since October 2019 when she meets Stamp Fairtex on March 26 in Singapore.
The strawweight matchup will headline the fight card and will mark Lee’s first fight since October 2019 and her first since giving birth to her daughter in 2021.
All 12 of Lee’s professional mixed martial arts bouts have come under the ONE Championship banner, beginning when she was just a teenager at ONE FC 27: Warrior’s Quest in May 2015.
Lee would go on to rack up nine consecutive wins and a world championship before losing the title in her first defeat, a fifth-round finish by Jingnan Xiong. Lee would then lose her next outing to Michelle Nicolini by way of decision before bouncing back to regain the title by defeating the woman who took her title in Xiong.
When speaking about the dangers that her opponent presents at ONE: X, Lee said:
“I’ve faced world-class strikers in my career, and never once was I afraid. Never once was I overwhelmed. I stand my ground, and I believe in my striking. Look at my last fight against [ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion] Xiong Jing Nan, and you can clearly see the damage on her face after the fight. So my striking is definitely not an area where I see it as my weakness. Probably a strength.
“I think that with my ground game, I’ve been doing mixed martial arts my whole life, so where I truly feel that I shine the most is in the transitions. On the striking to the wrestling to the grappling to the ground-and-pound, and transitioning through each of those areas seamlessly. I think that I can change things a lot [quicker] than she can keep up with, and I think that’s going to be a problem for her.”
