Anthony Hernandez outworks and stops Marc-Andre Barriault late at UFC Vegas 60

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, September 17, 2022, for UFC Vegas 60, going down live from the Apex Center in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a bantamweight clash, as no. 4 ranked Cory Sandhagen (14-4) faces no. 10 ranked Song Yadong (19-5-1-1) in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining the event is a middleweight encounter between Chidi Njokuani (22-7) and Gregory Rodrigues (12-4).

Opening up our main card tonight was also a middleweight bout, this one between 2021 Submission of the Year winner Anthony Hernandez (9-2) and former TKO two-division champion Marc-Andre Barriault (14-5).

Continue reading to see how this middleweight showdown went down:

Official Result: Anthony Hernandez def. Marc-Andre Barriault via technical submission (arm-triangle choke) at 1:53 of round three

These two get straight to work throughout the entire first five minutes.

Hernandez presses the action from the jump, which is not usually the case in a Barriualt fight. Hernandez’ hands look great tonight. Barriault jumps to Hernandez’ back in the middle of a scramble along the fence, but ends up on bottom, and after getting up, he’s single legged to his back again.

Hernandez lands another combination and secures another single leg to start round two. He spends the entirety of the second absolutely mauling Barriault, beating him to each position in order to remain on top. Hernandez gets some ground-and-pound off at every opportunity too, he’s really looking sharp tonight.

Everything is being mixed up beautifully, and he could be up 20-17, certainly 20-18 going into the third and final round.

Hernandez secures yet another takedown just 16 seconds into the third. Barriault is able to get up, but gets picked up and spiked on his head, literally. It was vicious, and he didn’t even appear to be fazed by it. Hernandez remains on top this time however, prior to sinking in the arm-triangle choke for the third round finish.

Barriault submitted Jordan Wright in his last fight with a guillotine choke, the first submission victory of his career, and here he gets submitted by Hernandez tonight at UFC Vegas 60.

Anthony Hernandez has now won his last three-straight contests, and he looked pretty impressive in all three. Who should he face next?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
