Anthony Pettis on the dynamic with Alex Martinez ahead of PFL bout

Anthony Pettis vs Alex Martinez transpires on Thursday, June 10th for the PFL. This compelling lightweight bout is positioned as the co-headlining contest on this night of fights at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Pettis is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Clay Collard. This transpired in his debut under the PFL umbrella at their end-of-April event.

The defeat snapped a back-to-back win streak Anthony Showtime Pettis put together prior to his first PFL foray.

Martinez emerged victorious in his last outing on that same April 23rd card that Pettis tasted defeat on. He garnered a split decision win over Loik Radzhabov and extended his record to 8-0 with one no contest.

The unbeaten Paraguay pugilist who also represents Grande Prairie, Alberta looks to go 2-0 in the PFL and secure the biggest name victory in the process.

Showtime Pettis is readying for a scenario whereby he needs an exemplary performance to keep his playoff hopes alive.

I was able to speak with Anthony Pettis ahead of his PFL bout with Alex Martinez at their pre-fight press conference. The excerpt from that interaction can be found below.

Anthony Pettis PFL

I’m kind of curious because I was speaking to Alex Martinez in the lead-up to this fight. He was just talking about the admiration he had for your taekwondo skills. How inspiring it was for him.

What’s the mindset like when you’re in a position of fighting a rising fighter that’s looked up to you for so long?

“Man, it’s crazy. It has happened in the last couple of fights, honestly. It’s crazy because I’m still young in this game. But I’ve just been around so long, you know. I fought at the top of the top. Fought the biggest names in the sport, man. So I can see why it happens.”
