Anthony Smith saying him being a massive underdog to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 277 is ‘criminal’
Anthony Smith doesn’t understand his odds against Magomed Ankalaev.
Smith is set to take on Ankalaev on the main card of UFC 277 in a crucial fight as the winner could very well get the title shot. Although the Dagestani fighter has looked impressive in the UFC, he’s a -400 favorite which ‘Lionheart’ doesn’t get at all and he believes it is disrespectful to him.
“+350? Go get your money,” Smith said to The Schmo. “+350? That’s crazy. That’s criminal. If I was fighting goddamn Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou at the same time, I shouldn’t be a f*cking +350. That’s crazy.”
Although Anthony Smith believes the line is way off, he has a chance to prove them wrong inside the Octagon and make his friends and family money. He is really excited about this fight as he’s coming off three wins in a row, all by stoppage, as he looks to prove people are writing him off way too soon.
“I’m really motivated for this one. It’s no secret I’ve struggled to find motivation at times, but this one there’s no lack of motivation for sure,” Smith said. “I’ve got a really dangerous guy in front of me who everyone kind of deems as the boogeyman, and that’s really exciting for me, how dangerous everyone else thinks he is. So I’m excited to go in there. I feel like I’ve been getting a lot better. I’m in way better shape and in a better spot this far out from a fight than I’ve been in a long time. I’m excited. I think people are writing me off just a little bit.”
Anthony Smith is coming off a submission win over Ryan Spann and before that he scored a TKO win over Jimmy Crute and a submission win over Devin Clark. As for Ankalaev, he’s coming off a main event decision win over Thiago Santos in his first UFC main event.
