Archie Colgan opens up on Bellator 297, his future, and teammate Justin Gaethje

Coming into his Bellator 297 showdown with former title challenger Emmanuel Sanchez, undefeated prospect Archie Colgan knew it would be a test. The two would fight all 15 minutes and in the end, Colgan picked up the unanimous decision victory, improving his record to 8-0, and catapulting himself into the Top-10 rankings of the lightweight division.

Crediting the experience of Sanchez and the vast difference in the amount of fights between the two, Colgan acknowledged the toughness of his opponent but always kept the confidence that he would get the victory. Speaking to MyMMANews.com about his victory at Bellator 297, Archie Colgan explained what the fight against a veteran like Sanchez was like, how he’s pacing his career thus far, and what it’s like being teammates with Justin Gaethje.

After just two fights in his professional career, Colgan made the jump to Bellator MMA and has four first-round finishes to his resume and six total victories since joining the promotion. Considered one of the best young prospects in the lightweight division, Colgan discussed how he won’t rush himself through his career just to get a title fight, and how patience will be the key to success for him. After getting four fights in 2022 and two more in the first half of 2023, Colgan also credited his management team, Dominance MMA, for getting him the right fights to put him in the position he’s currently in.

As he continues to gain experience in the cage, Archie Colgan also knows his teammates and coaches are important to the development of his career. In the training room, Colgan finds himself entrenched with former UFC champions Kamaru Usman and Justin Gaethje and the chaos that comes with training alongside two of the most ruthless fighters to ever fight. Colgan also weighed-in on how he feels the Gaethje vs Poirier main event will go down at UFC 291, with the ‘BMF’ title on the line.
