Art Jimmerson, UFC 1 competitor, dead at 60

UFC 1 competitor Art Jimmerson has died at age 60. A cause of death for the former boxer and man who famously fought Royce Gracie with one glove, has not yet been disclosed.

Jimmerson’s son Christian Jimmerson announced the news on social media.

“Dear Friends and Family, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Art Jimmerson,” Christian wrote. “Art was known for his love of God, family, and boxing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A funeral service to celebrate Art’s life will be announced. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Please keep Art and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Jimmerson, known as “One Glove,” because one of the sport’s most iconic figures the night the UFC was born in 1993. As a pro boxer, Jimmerson’s record was 33-18, including 17 knockout victories, from 1985-2002. He then entered the UFC’s first event in the octagon and was quickly eliminated from the tournament be Gracie.

UFC officials also confirmed Jimmerson’s death in a statement.

“The UFC family sends its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Art Jimmerson at this difficult time,” UFC officials wrote in a statement while paying tribute to him.
