Aspen Ladd explains what led to weight miss and scratched fight at UFC Vegas 38
UFC women’s bantamweight contender Aspen Ladd explained what led to missing weight and her fight ultimately being scratched at UFC Vegas 38.
Ladd stepped onto the scales at the weigh-ins on Friday with a full set of clothes on and she was 141.5lbs. It seemed obvious that she was not going to make weight, but the Nevada Athletic Commission still wanted to see if Ladd could make the 136lbs non-title bantamweight limit. After Ladd took her clothes off and stood for several minutes on the scale while her weight was recorded, the commission was finally to get a final weight of 137lbs. Ladd was seen trembling on the scale, but ultimately she was allowed to fight even despite the fact she looked extremely ill on the scales.
However, the fight was ultimately scratched. Taking to her social media following the cancelation to explain what happened, Ladd admitted that the whole situation is her fault since she is the one who missed weight. However, Ladd did mention that she was dealing with menstrual cycle issues this week which made her have a really bad weight cut. In the end, according to Ladd, it was Chiasson’s choice whether to fight or not, and she decided she didn’t want to take on a heavier opponent tomorrow.
Fight is off. Again. All my fault. Straight up started my period 2 days back and made this cut absolutely miserable. Did the best I could, hit 137, the scale situation was a mess because the last thing I wanted was to bleed in front of the media. The fight wasn’t pulled, my opponent then decided she would rather not go through with it, as is her right. I’m going to get slammed regardless, so let it begin.
This was the second time the Ladd vs. Chiasson fight was canceled. The first came after Chiasson got injured in July and their fight fell apart the night before the weigh-ins. It’s also worth noting this is the second time that Ladd has missed weight for a UFC fight.
Do you think Aspen Ladd should move up to 145lbs after yet another weight miss in the UFC?
