Aspen Ladd vs. Macy Chiasson added to summer UFC Fight Night card

UFC women’s bantamweight contenders will collide this summer when Aspen Ladd makes her return to the Octagon against Macy Chiasson.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report that Ladd will be making her comeback fight against Chiasson at a UFC Fight Night event scheduled for July 24. Ladd’s head coach at MMAGOLD Jim Wolf recently mentioned that Ladd was looking to return on the July 10 UFC 264 pay-per-view card headlined by the trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Instead, Ladd winds up on the July 24 event that takes place two weeks later against Chiasson. It’s a battle between two of the top-10 ranked women’s bantamweights in the UFC and the winner will close in on a title shot.

Ladd (9-1) is coming off of a long layoff, having last fought in December 2019 against Yana Kunitskaya in an excellent performance that saw her win via third-round TKO. Just 26 years old, Ladd is the No. 3 ranked women’s bantamweight in the UFC. She made her promotional debut back in 2017 and picked up a TKO win over Lina Lansberg before picking up a TKO win over Tonya Evinger in her next fight. She then won a unanimous decision over Sijara Eubanks in a “Fight of the Night” performance before dropping a controversial TKO loss to Germaine de Randamie. After that, she beat Kunitskaya and seemed destined for another top opponent, but she has been out with an ACL injury for the last year.

Chiasson (7-1) is the No. 9 ranked women’s bantamweight in the UFC. The 29-year-old American won “The Ultimate Fighter” season 28 in 2018 and has since gone 5-1 overall in the UFC with wins over Marion Reneau, Shanna Young, Sarah Moras, Gina Mazany, and Pannie Kianzad, with her lone loss in the UFC coming against the aforementioned Lansberg. With a win here over Ladd, Chiasson will strengthen her argument to jump into the 135lbs division’s elite.

Who do you think wins this women’s bantamweight bout between Aspen Ladd and Macy Chiasson?
