Bellator 130 Results from the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Kansas, Oct. 24
The Hardcore Kid, Emanuel Newton defended his light heavyweight title against what was arguably his toughest opponent yet in the United Kingdom’s Linton Vassell. In the first two rounds, Newton narrowly escaped submission attempts multiple times. He was able to scoot out the back door on more than one occasion and take the back of Vassell however he could not quite get the job done there and both rounds would be awarded in favor of the Brit.
Round three and four were reversed and Newton would dictate the pace and Vassell had sparks of energy here and there but was primarily owned by the champion. The winner would be determined in the fifth and final round and it was. Newton applied a rear-naked choke and retained his title at 0:47 in the final round.
Bobby Lashley, previously of pro wrestling fame, returned to mixed martial arts action in the heavyweight division and made quick work of Karl Etherington, putting him away in just over a minute, forcing the Englishman to tap out due to strikes.
The women returned to Bellator for the first time in several years with the introduction of the female featherweight division. Marloes Coenen worked round after round for submission yet Annalisa Bucci kept fighting it off but not providing much offense in return. Finally in the third round Coenen was able to submit Bucci via rear-naked-choke.
