Bellator MMA kicked off a weekend doubleheader on Friday night at Mohegan Sun for Bellator 215. The event aired live and free on Paramount Network and was simulcast on DAZN.

A pair of heavyweight combatants met in the evening’s main event as Matt Mitrione looked to take down the surging Sergei Kharitonov.

Mitrione came out swinging for the fences and threw a body kick — that unfortunately caught Kharitinov square in the cup region. Kharitinov went down in serious pain and remained on the mat for quite a while. The doctors entered the cage and Kharitinov was in pure agony and the fight is over.

After the fight, Mitrione apologized to the crowd at Mohegan Sun.

Logan Storley smothers Ion Pascu to move to 10-0

In the co-main event, wrestling standout Logan Storley returned to the Bellator cage to face Dublin, Ireland’s Ion Pascu. It was that top notch wrestling that would tell the tale for 15 minutes.

They touch gloves and Storley lands a pair of kicks to the body. Pascu lands a low leg kick. Storley pushing forward and shoots for a double. Pascu sprawls and is able to defend for a moment, before Storley completes a second attempt. Pascu is avoiding any significant damage, but he is working hard early. Storley switches to a waist lock as Pascu tries to get to his feet. Storley lands a gnarly belly-to-back throw — Pascu was airborne —  and ends up on top. Short elbow lands from Storley as he looks to pass the half guard of Pascu. Right hands from Storley, followed by some short elbows. Dominant first round for Storley.

Storley opens the second round with a high kick attempt, and immediately takes Pascu to the mat with relative ease. Storley, in half guard, starts to open up with some right hands. Big elbow lands from Storley as he looks to use his knee to pin the left arm of Pascu. Storley lands another nasty elbow and looks to pass. On a side note, the comments from individual, clearly intoxicated, members of the audience are something else. The wrestling and ground supremacy of Storley is the story throughout the second round  — much to the dismay of the crowd.

Final round begins and Pascu needs to stay on his feet as long as possible. That lasted 30 seconds or so as Storley takes him down and lands punches to the body repeatedly while on top. Pascu desperately trying to get back to his feet and tries to sweep. Storley defends and takes the back of Pascu. The 27-fight veteran throws everything at an armbar attempt, but Storley defends and is back on top. That’s where he stays for the rest of the round as Storley cruises to an easy win to move to 10-0.

Eduardo Dantas outpoints his way back into the win column

Eduardo Dantas looked to snap in two fight losing streak and take a step closer to another shot at the Bellator 135-pound title.  If the crowd at Mohegan Sun has anything to say about it, Dantas will be waiting a little longer, despite getting a much needed victory over Toby Misech.

The former bantamweight champion looked very sharp to start as he lands some kicks to the body. Dantas locks up and pushes Misech against the fence and lands a take down. Misech is doing a nice job staying out of trouble on the ground. Suddenly, Dantas puts himself in a position to lock in a kimura. Misech looks very calm in the situation, but his demeanor changes slightly after he eats a right hand. Dantas still on top with 10 seconds to go and the round ends in the same position.

Second round opens up with Dantas landing a kick to the body, and to the leg of Misech. Dantas lands a hard body kick as Misech is trying to move forward a bit more. Nice combination by “2 Quick”. Body kick and a nasty low leg kick behind it lands by Dantas.  Crowd is beginning to boo the action. Misech answers with a clean left hand. Dantas looks for a takedown, Misech somehow stays on his feet. The former champion takes Misech’s back and has a hook in. Misech looks very relaxed and is clearly looking for the referee to stand them up, as is the capacity crowd at Mohegan Sun. Dantas slowly working for a choke and Misech defends. Pair of right hands land from Dantas, who is still working for the rear naked choke. Misech continues to defend with 10 seconds left in the round. The bell rings as do the boos throughout the arena.

They touch gloves to open the final round and Misech is clearly down two rounds. Misech comes out aggressively, landing a pair of body kicks and a nice combination with the hands. Body kick lands by Dantas. Misech eats a body kick, but follows with a right hand. Misech just can’t seem to pull the trigger as it seems Dantas has slowed down quite a bit. Misech comes up short with a jab, Dantas follows with another kick to the body. Two minutes left in the round and both guys are waiting for the other to make a move. The boos have returned to Mohegan Sun Arena with 90 seconds to go. Leg kick checked by Misech as we’re under a minute to go. Misech needs to unload with everything he’s got. He throws a pair of punches that come up just short. Dantas solidifies the win by shooting for a single leg as the bell rings.

John Douma shocks Mike Kimbel in the opening round

John Douma told MyMMANews.com heading into the fight that New England MMA fans should consider him the favorite. And boy did he deliver on that.

The battle of two of New England’s top bantamweight prospects starts off with a lot of respect and patience on both sides. Kimbel throws a spinning back kick and Douma ducks underneath. Underhooks from Douma, but Kimbel is able to use momentum to pick up a big slam. Douma is back to his feet, but goes right back down. Kimbel throws a couple of shots and Douma locks in a triangle choke. Kimbel gets to his feet, still in the choke and power bombs Douma right on his neck — which, somehow, only locks it in tighter. Kimbel taps out and the place goes bananas. Huge win for John Douma!

Austin Vanderford taps Cody Jones to pick up Bellator debut win

Jones lands a kick to the body to open things up as Vanderford looks very patient in there. Vanderford landed a takedown 45 seconds into the opening round and looked to improve his position. Vanderford took Jones’ back for a moment, but Jones did a nice job scrambling and ending up on top. Vanderford sweeps and ended up in full guard. Some body shots land as Vanderford gets to Jones’ back once again with under a minute to go. Vanderford transitions to an arm triangle and it’s deep. Jones taps out and Austin Vanderford gets his first win in the Bellator cage — much to the delight of his wife Paige VanZant who was in the corner.
