Bellator 225 results: Sergei Kharitonov stops Matt Mitrione in second round
It was a big night for the heavyweights on the main card of Bellator 225, which was capped off by the main event of the evening. The event took place at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn.
In the main event, Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov met for the second time in Connecticut, after their first meeting in February at Bellator 215 ended in just 15 seconds. Not only that, the fight ended in a no contest due to an unintentional low blow from Mitrione, which left Kharitonov unable to continue.

ROUND 1
They touch gloves and we are underway. Mitrione with a body kick early, followed by a combination. Mitrione lands a short left hand and Kharitonov lands a leg kick and a hard jab. Leg kick from Mitrione as the “USA” chants are loud. Body kick from Mitrione, answered my Kharitonov — which Mitrione catches. Kharitonov lands a jab once he gets to his feet and Mitrione looks very comfortable and light on his feet. Leg kick by Mitrione, followed by a couple of jabs. Hard body shot by Kharitonov. Mitrione lands a body kick, left counter and a right to the body from Kharitonov. Under two minutes to go and Kharitonov continues to go to the body. They tie up and Mitrione’s mouthpiece falls out. The action resumes and Kharitonov lands a big right hand, again knocking out the mouthpiece of Mitrione. Hard jab by Mitrione, answered by a left hook from Kharitonov. They trade jabs and Mitrione’s mouthpiece falls out again. Dan Miragliotta warns Mitrione about keeping his mouthpiece in and the bell sounds. Close round.

The “USA” chants continue as Kharitonov goes to the body again. Mitrione with a body kick and just misses a left hook. Right hand over the top by Kharitonov and they trade jabs. Knee to the body from Mitrione. They are phone booth fighting right now and Mitrione eats a big left hand, mouthpiece out again. Kharitonov isn’t waiting, lands a big knee and Mitrione is down. After a short flurry, it’s all over, much to the chagrin of the crowd.
