Bellator 225 results: Alejandra Lara overwhelms Taylor Turner in opening round

Bellator MMA returned to action on Saturday night for Bellator 225. The event took place at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn.

The featured bout took place in the women’s bantamweight division as former title challenger Alejandra Lara took on Taylor Turner. Lara was looking to snap a two fight losing streak on Saturday night after suffering losses to the champion, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Juliana Velasquez.

Turner comes in with a three fight winning streak, including her most recent appearance, a first-round TKO win over Heather Hardy at Bellator 222 in June.

ROUND 1

Lara lands a left hand early and they tie up in the center of the cage. Lara is able to complete the takedown and works from Turner’s guard. Turner tries to tie up for a leg lock, but Lara is able to defend and land some ground and pound. Turner gets back to her feet, and Lara smothers her against the fence. Turner eats a knee to the thigh by Lara against the fence before being taken to the mat. Turner trying to scramble, but Lara traps an arm under her knee. Lara lands a flurry of punches as she postures up and Turner is super gritty. Lara gets to full mount and takes Turner’s back, flattening her out. Lara unloading with punches and the referee has seen enough.
